The Path I Chose

Topic Selection Focused:

Marketing is the topic I have chosen to study and pursue for my ISM project. However, this decision was not one easily made. After much research, interviewing, and consideration, I was finally able to decide on marketing.

Previously, I was interested in pursuing medicine. After countless hours in labs, experiments, interviews, volunteering, shadowing, and internships, I decided that medicine wasn't right for me, but I still enjoyed learning about it. This helped me channel my interest in medicine to business, without completely switching tracks.

I am specifically interested in understanding the psychological foundations marketing is built upon and understanding the market research behind why certain marketing strategies work better than others, on an almost chemical level. After consideration of my personal experiences and those who inspire me, I decided something related to sales and marketing would be the best option for me. My enjoyment of public speaking and ability to perform well in front of other people helped me recognize my talents and channel them into my interests.

My father is in sales and after learning under him, his values, his day to day life, what he loves most about what he does, and why I would be successful and enjoy sales or marketing, I was able to make the decision to switch interests with more confidence.
